Sydney Harbour at Twilight...
Taken without a tripod by pushing the camera down on a railing to hold it dead still.
Need to leave more room in the framing for rotation, the bridge is too close to the RHS of the frame for my liking...

No rich anonymous benefactor found...

Well, 1 year after I posted looking for an anonymous benefactor I ended up doing it myself:
MacBook Pro, 15-inch, Intel Core Duo (AU)
Part Number: MA464X/A
1GB 667 DDR2 - 1 SO-DIMM
SuperDrive (DVD+RW/CD-RW)
2.0GHZ Intel Core Duo
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS
AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
100GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
Never a philanthropist around when you need one! Oh Well!!
So I have made the switch (back) and so far, I hope to never have to return to the dark side again... I guess I will have to wait for a fink stable intel distribution though...

Originally uploaded by Blurred Vision. DPChallenge submission for this weeks "Backlight II" challenge. I am a little unhappy about the distracting banding in the background, but the DPChalenge is under the basic editing ruleset, so no selective or spot editing allowed... Probably should have used a pearl globe instead... Oh well.. I will insist on shooting at the last minute... ;^)

Centre of our Universe
Christmas day portraits... Would you believe I took this with the remote control? We were so lucky that the little man decided that the clicking of the camera was absolutely interesting for the whole 5 minutes we had to shoot our christmas family portrait before he got cranky?!?! This shot would never have worked if he weren't staring right down the barrel of the camera...

Urban scavengers... These magpies outside O'Malleys are almost famous. They would have to be the gutsiest birds out. As you can see, this one was none to pleased with me approaching him while he was trying to find something to eat...

Blue Collar
I like the world war 2 propaganda poster feeling of this shot. It was resurected form the a horribly underexposed shot that managed to auto expose for the sky in the background...
Blue Collar II
I was shooting the crane, and he just started watching me, so I started taking photos.. he didn't seem to mind... so I kept on clicking...
Hard Yakka
Tried a sillhouette shot.. kinda missing the 100 metre high sky scraper... the treeline makes the shot look too grounded in my oppinion...

Tread Softly
Small leaves that have spilled atractively onto a wooden bench in the Australian Botanical Gardens. They were casting such a wonderful blue shadow on the wooden slats that I just had to capture it...
Fire Sticks
Fire Stick flower seed pods (Fire Stick flowers are commonly mistaken for a waratah from a distance) after the flower has dissapeared. These pods sit atop a stem that rises 2-3 meteres in the air.
Modern Day Nature Reserve
Taken at the Australian National Botanical Gardens. Area 175 is a grassland section of the botanical gardens that happens to be in a traffic island in the car park. This image struck me as both visually striking with the freshly painted red curbs and zebra crossing, aswell as topically striking, as it looks like a little traffic island nature reserve.
Even bird couples argue...
Also taken from a moving car. These two magpies looked like a bickering couple. The one on the left looks like it is talking, but being ignored...
Sky Walk
Taken from the window of a moving car. Belconnen Bus Interchange in Canberra. As I drove past this, the juxtaposition between the newness of the roof, and the oldness of the stained concrete struck me.

Dawn Reflection
The other shot I was going to enter in the baloon fiesta reflections competition. That was until I read the entry form, and realised that I had missed the deadline by 4 hours. Oh Well...
Quiet Morn
There were so many people out this morning, that I was quietly going crazy! So I exposed them out of the shot, and made them into a quiet silhouette. Adjust the levels if you want to see how busy it really was!
The Baloon Pilot pt 1
This shot still captivates me.... It just has more depth than any of the other hundres of photos I got this week of baloons overhead. I think it is the clouds in the sky that add texture and depth.
The Baloon Pilot pt 2
Something about this particular baloon, and the sky that it was in that caught my eye...
Dawn Drifter
Taken at the International Baloon Fiesta this morning. This made trip number 4 for the fiesta.
Reflections Pool
This is the view from Old Parliament house, of the Reflections pool, with the War Memorial in the distance under Mt Ainsle. This is designed to make sure that our polititians always reflect on the cost of war, and remember the sacrifices of those that defend our freedom.

Ballon Fiesta Reflections
My favourite contender thus far to be entered in the 'Baloon Fiesta' Reflections photo competition. We will have to see what the rest of the week brings...
Baloon Fiesta Lake Panorama
Ever so slightly cliched 'shot of hot air baloons over the water' panorama...
Old Parliament House
Early morning shot taken at Old Parliament House this morning while I was out to capture the 'Ballon Fiesta' hot air baloon launch...

The Boatshed
Taken down by the lake at the National Museam of Australia. This is a strange one as the far shoreline is actually curved slightly. The photo looks crooked when the tower is straight because of the curved shoreline tricking the eye that it is a horizon. If you ignore the vertical refrence points, and balance the photo on the shore line, it looks straight but is actually crooked!!

Bird on a Wire.
Reshot 'Monday Wash Day' for DPChallenge Movie Title submission, and ended up not using it.. Not as vivid as wash day, as the basic editing rules for the photo contest are much more severe... Still, technically I like this shot more, as it has better focus.
I Love a sunburnt Country - MK I
Unused DPChallenge entry for Roadsigns IV. Stay tuned for the real submission once voting finishes.

Psssst.... Over here...
A rather fearless grasshopper on the lawn. Summer has seen a massive influx of these little fellas... This one was sort of sitting up like he was trying to get my attention. Well, he got it...
Nieces resting
Another great shot of one of my nieces. She was curled up on the cool tiles under the coffee table on another oppressively hot 35 degree day...

RGB
My wife was on the phone to her sister, so I decided to take some shots. As you can see, we are fans of bold primary colours in our living room. This is our famous 'Kermit the Frog' green wall. When I tell people about it, no one really believes that it is this green... It is... p.s.: Doesn't my wife just have the cutest damn feet?!

Chrome Sunset Part 2
Same evening. Sunset at our place during the bushfires in Perth. Included some horizon to give more scale to the shot.
Niece at the Zoo part 1...
My neice caught me trying to take a candid shot of her... The shot needed a fill flash, but as I was trying to be covert, did not set it. There was a little bit of work in Photoshop to selectively correct the darkened face. I ended up using restricted gradient selection set on her face, and adjusted the levels to brighten it a little on the Right Hand Side.

The 'eye's have it.
Emu taken at the national Zoo and Aquarium. Doesn't this make you feel even a little homesick Marie?
Tuesday, January 18, 2005
JubJub
Taken at the Canberra National Zoo and Aquarium. Shame the lighting was so intense. Modified curves in photoshop to bring out the colours in the iguana and blurred the background to reduce the apparent depth of field.

Cool Hand Luke
Submission for the DPChallenge "Movie II" challenge. I decided not to submit it. It was moddeled agaist one of my better pencil sketches that I did before the house burned down.
Gemma
Was sitting outside, drinking a Coffee while my wife had a Felafel Roll, when Gemma (the dog) and her owner came up. Thought it was such a nice dog, that I would snap off a few shots of her.

Self Portrait
Had to create a profile photo for DPChallenge and decided to do something wierd. I was originally planning on making this a green skinned freak 'a la' Incredible Hulk, but decided that black and white worked better. I have adjusted the levels to darken the photo considerably, which has drawn out all the imperfections and details on my skin, giving it a more severe look.

My Beautiful Wife, Hard at Work
A candid shot of my beautiful wife, having fun with her new art supplies that she got for christmas. Duotoned for effect.
Nieces with Attitude
One of my favourite photos photos of my nieces, this is the only posed photo that I have ever taken that has so much character.
Even weeds can look good
An early attempt at macro photography. I was originally trying to play with the setting sun coming through the fence pailings, but it just would not work, so I took this instead.
Clouds into the Distance
Walked outside to see this, and ran back inside to get the camera. 1/1000th Sec at F/4. I really like the composition of this photo with the dissapearing point.
Ruben the Graceful
An low light photo of the cat, that has had it's levels and colour adjusted in photoshop. I used manual focus, with focus bracketing just to make sure I got the shot before he woke up. Shot was taken without a tripod, so it is hand held on a 1/8th second at f/2.2
Nieces with Chocolate Part 2
Like I said: There is something so cute about my nieces and chocolate cake...

Dad
A nice candid shot of Dad. I am working on capturing people when are not looking... Trying hard to get the shot that really shows personality. I like this one as Dad is focusing on talking to my wife, who was sitting next to me.
Reach for the sky!!
Another one of the Flodriade set. Every once and a while, I look back on them, and find another one that I like...

Rubber Duckie, you're the one
I often look at this very scene when I walk past the guest bathroom in our place. I have always loved the lighting through the timber venetion blinds, and decided to get in there today and capture it. I like the three simple elements of interest in this photo that I find gives it a really nice balance: The blind, the taps, and the rubber duck.
My Most Beautiful Wife
A Christmas day portrait of my beautiful wife. After all, it was her that bought me the digital camera that started all of this. Merrry Christmas baby!
Sunday, December 12, 2004
One Tree Hill
Walked outside to water the lawn, and was presented with this view from the front porch. I love clouds like this, they always have such amazing contrast.

Ruben the Lazy
Ruben loves lying in the sun. I was trying as hard as I could to silhouette him completely in this picture. I think I needed to wait for more sunlight make him more silhouetted.
Electric Blue
Something intrigues me about the colour of a gas flame at night. This was taken with SuperMacro, as close as I could get to the flame without exposing the camera to danger.
Sunday, December 05, 2004
Ruben the Alert
This photo was taken just before the sun went down. The even and whiteish light even's out the cat's features. This shot was taken in Macro mode. The cat was that occupied with whatever was making noise behind the fence, tha the did not mind that I stuck the camera within 10 centimetres of his face.
Remnants of the 2003 Duffy Bushfires
My wife and I kept this kettle, and the cutlery in it from our old house at Duffy. Now it has something living in it. Snapped this one in the late afternoon just before the sun dissapeared behind the fence. I like the balance between the rough rusted metal, the rough wood, and the lush green mondo grass.

Bought a good book on digital photography
Bought a great book "Digital Photography" by Michael Wright (Publisher: Hylas Publishing (June 25, 2004), ISBN: 1592580645.)
I bought it with a gift voucher I got for my birthday (Thanks Pete, Mary , Gabbi and Emilie!) from Dymocks. It doesn't treat the reader like a newbie (how to plug your camera into the computer, load software etc...) but also does not assume you have been taking photos with an SLR for the last 15 years.

Sunset Desktop Background
Having dual 17" Monitors, I wanted a dual screen desktop background photo. Grabbed the camera, went outside, and voila: Instant cool photo. Original is 2048x768.
Ruben the Modest
Just before the 'Ruben the Wise' shot was taken, here he was looking down at something that took his interest. The combination of the downturned head and the backlighting seems to give the cat a gentle an modest appearance.
Orange Poppie
I really like the framing of this shot. I don't like the way that all my other poppie photos have come out as they seem to be 'detailess' and washed out This one just worked.
Red Riding Hood Tulip - Macro shot
I am very happy with this macro shot of the inside of the Red Riding Hood tulip. It has amazing colour and texture with the purple pollen granules clearly visible.
Introduction to Macro photography
This is my first real macro shot. Taken a few days before floriade as a practice shot. Lighting was good as the light overcast day outside gave a very cool flat white light that is (apparently) ideal for macro photography.
